Default Need some help and or education

I recently bought a 2002 Silverado 2500hd ext cab 4x4 8.1 Alison. Being new to Chevy I got a couple questions....
1st, when pushing the tow/haul button nothing happens. I read about a wire in dash that breaks. I found it and fixed it. Now dash light comes on when pushed, but I can't tell if anything changes. What does it do and how can I tell if it works??

2nd, just today while towing toy hauler to mountains (with tow light on) the "service engine soon" light came on. When bought the oil was changed, air filter and cabin filter were changed and all fluids topped. What would need serviced? Does this truck have some trick that resets the oil change interval?

3rd, truck has factory CD in the stereo and a separate cassette player down below, neither work, however everything else on stereo works fine. Any ideas?

4th, there is a compass/temp display in rearview mirror. Sometimes it displays fine, other times it flashes gibberish, it's even blank at times. Does it need reset/celebrated, or just problematic ?

5th, truck has terrible cigarette smell, besides taking up smoking, what can be done to get rid of it? I've steam cleaned it. Baking soda and vacuumed it. Washed all surfaces with vinegar water. Sprayed Ozium in it yesterday, but it was short lived. Has anybody used the smoke bomb things and do they work?
Thats about it for now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Tow/haul changes the shift points, not real noticeable. Service engine soon light means that the computer has thrown a code, you will need a reader to see what the code is then look up the code to see what the issue is. 3, time for new ones. 4 I fixed mine by replacing the mirror.

#1 You won't know until you pull a trailer if it works, the two/haul light should come on.
#2 Yes you need to reset the oil change light when serviced, I believe ignition on, not running, hit the accelerator pedal 5 times within 3 seconds.
#3 Do they do anything? I would check for a seperate fuse.
#4 Probably a loose connection, my 03 display either works or it dosen't, is the temp/compass switch on?
#5 Google cigarette removal from car (I.E) probably something you can try.

Thnx for reply guys.
Tow lite will come on when button pressed. Should it come on auto when trailer connected?
I'll look for separate fuse for CD, but pretty sure it's hosed and a aftermarket is in near future. CD goes in and out ok, just won't play.
I'll probably just live with mirror as is for awhile.
Once I get back home I'll check for codes and try resetting oil change.
THANKS for your input.

Tow/haul you have to select anytime you start the truck, stop get gas, shutoff, you have to push the button everytime.

Cool, thnx for clearing me up on that. One thing I did notice when tow is on, gearing seems to help hold back on down hill.

Next, to figure out the under dash trailer braking system. I thought trailer brakes would engage when I manually activate and trailer would slow truck, but nope. Perhaps Adjustment. I'll Google the brand and model. Thanks to all on speedy replies and help.

Trailer brakes should react with brake pedal, normal set up is that with a manual override. I would suggest you take it to a pro. Make sure the cable for the trailer is hooked up.

The factory stereo may just need cleaning, especially if the PO was a smoker. It may be worth it to remove it from the dash, take the covers off and give it a good blasting using keyboard duster.

The odor removers (smoke bombs) work temporarily - how long depends on how embedded the smell is. I’d recommend taking it to a professional detailer as they would thoroughly clean the interior and be the best chance of eliminating it.

Use an ozone generator for the odor.

Default Follow up

Great info from all. THNX. Sorry I'm just getting back with follow up.

1. Tow/Haul is working ok.
2. "Service engine soon" my scanner found one code, reads p0101. MAF dirty? maybe bad? I cleared it and so far it's still clear. The steps kpk provided to reset oil change worked but 3x in 5 sec.
3. Air dusted CD player and cassette, then ran a cleaning CD and cassette through both. CD seems fine, cassette plays but won't eject, no biggy.
4. Compass still flaky, I'll live with it.
5. Cig smell still there but not as horrible. Have not tried bomb. Considering a pro cleaning though.
6. Trailer brake works, just needed adjusted. I found online manual.
Fantastic help! Little bear, kpk, gumby22, manjoe. THANKS TO YOU ALL. Cheers
