Need suggestions for replacement engine
My son inherited my mother's 2003 Chevy 1500 when she passed last year... it's been through some things and needs some love.. what's beginning to feel like the love a Kardashian wants tbh. Generally that would be a simple thing, change fluids blah blah blah.... No... My mother bought this truck from a friend who purchased it from an auction, come to find out it had been converted from an every day driver to a rural mail truck, they also swapped the motor to a 3.6L, it now needs new gaskets & most likely heads.... Before we start in on it we need to be able to find a replacement motor just in case this one can't be rebuilt, please for the love of all things auto send your suggestions my way.... Everything from best parts places to best engine distribution companies..... And pray I don't set this truck on fire... My momma will come from heaven and take me back with her if I do...
rockauto.com has good part selection and prices.
powertrainproducts.net and jasperengines.com are reputable names in remanufactured engines, but engines are in high demand right now.
Sounds like you have a heavily customized truck (a transverse front wheel drive engine out of an SUV??) which will likely turn into a massive headache. Really think about if you want to go ahead with this. Maybe momma wanted to set fire to it too.

She never had a problem with the dang thing
it waited to act a fool till she passed away... Good times.... I greatly appreciate your suggestions. I am also near certain that's exactly what they did, since it has the same motor in it that my 2012 Traverse LT has... but the truck is also a 4x4, it's amazing. I love it. #OklahomaMechanics....

Having an older C1500 as well as a 2006 Silverado 1500 in my driveway (both RWD), I can't imagine how a 3.6L engine would perform adequately for moving a 6000 pound truck around with any get up and go, and seems going 4WD would need even more power. I have no advice beyound @MountainMan on sources of engines, but wish you luck! If it were me, I would go back to the stock engine for that generation Silverado, but they must have done some Frankenstein like work to get the computers and such to work in a Silverado with that engine, so you would also have to undo that if you went with any other engine.
