Default New A/M 6.5" Speakers Distorting?

I have a 2006 Silverado with a stock head unit. I purchased some Kenwood 6.5's x4 and installed them. I verified that I wired them correctly as well, however, the sound quality is very poor. The high's are very high and any bass at all distorts them. I can not turn them up at all. The Kenwood's are 35RMS and 180W Max, so there is no way they would instantly blow. Any thoughts? I cannot figure it out.

Does your Silverado have the bose system of high end system installed? The reason i ask is some systems including the bose system will not work with aftermarket speakers because of the ohms difference of the speakers. The only way you can fix this would be install a new amp and or head unit. Also make sure that you are wiring the speakers before the crossover. Some models have a crossover in the doors to send mid bass and tweeters to different speakers.

Take a ohm meter and measure the resistance of the old speaker, then the new one. The need to be about the same.
