Default No Homelink power?

okay, so I’ve removed(meaning I’ve cut it out) the plug that separates the overhead console(no idea what it’s called) to take it out of the equation as a factor, now testing the pos and neg from the harness and I get 12v, but if I connect the wires the homelink buttons don’t work...NOW, if I use a 9v battery and connect it to the console end to the pos and neg the homelink buttons work????????????? Is this physically possible???? Plz help

***btw the two lights ALWAYS work with any power
