Default Oil Leak

My truck started leaking oil today and not very slow. I’m thinking rear main seal.
Leaked a quart in about 5 miles. Oil pressure doesn’t go over 20.

Yeah, sounds like a rear crank seal to me too. 20 PSI is too low above idle. If you drive it at all, the old trick is to reduce any crankcase pressure by leaving the oil cap off, until you can repair it, or have it done. At a quart every 5 miles none of those seal swelling chemicals will work.Might as well change the oil pump too with the oil pan off.

Thanks. You have a ballpark of what that might cost?

The parts are cheap. $18 bucks for the rear main seal. A high volume oil pump (18 percent more pressure) is about $55 -140 dollars. Its the labor that will take time if you use a shop. I use an independent shop for things that need a hoist or a pit, Get 10 percent off labor with a AAA card too. Might look on Yelp for reviews if you use a shop to do the work..

RepairPal. com has a pretty good listing of what the going rates are in your area.Usually cheaper in smaller towns, then in larger cities.Of course dealerships will cost more, but that's just the name of the game.

Thanks everybody. Turns out it was the oil sending unit. That also explained the low oil pressure. It was pushing oil right up through the plug.
