Default Oil pressure specs

Can someone tell me if these specs are correct for a 2004 Silverado 6.0?
Seems really low to me.

Oil Pressure - Minimum - Hot

6 psi at 1,000 engine RPM
18 psi at 2,000 engine RPM
24 psi at 4,000 engine RPM

Mine is within those specs, barely (assuming the gauge is close to accurate), but Low Oil Pressure warning is coming on.
I've had cluster rebuilt, changed oil (and flushed, just to make sure), and changed sending units.
I've heard of an issue with the 6.0's spinning cam bearings and ruining the block. So that has me worried. And oil pump install is not that big a problem.
Is there any way to check (without a teardown ) if it did spin a cam bearing? One fellow said he spun his and besides the low oil pressure, really couldn't tell a difference. I find that odd, to say the least.

not sure of gm specs but minimum general rebuilders spec are:
10psi for each 1000rpm

gm has a test adaptor that spins on in place of the oil filter. they would test at the filter and sending unit and compare. if its low at the filter, pump could be bad.

Thanks. I'll check that.

I called one place. They said $150 to check the pressure manually. Unreal. For that price, I can stick a new pump in there, along with gaskets, etc,

that is the price for 1 hour labour in some places. call around

before going anywhere and paying that price....get specific information on what they are going to do to address this. Ask to speak to the shop foreman... have him tell you their plan. this way you can ensure they know what they are doing. if they can't answer this...go elsewhere

I would obtain a mechanical pressure gauge, preferably on older Stewart Warner or Sun, plumb it into the system where the pressure sender is now (hopefully there's room for a T fitting) and see exactly what pressure you have now.

If it's fine, no problem. If it's low, then you have some further testing to do.

Default Oil Pressure Specs – What You Need to Know

Oil pressure specifications are crucial for maintaining engine health and performance. The ideal oil pressure depends on the vehicle, but general ranges are:
  1. At Idle: 20-30 psi (pounds per square inch).
  2. At Operating Speed: 40-70 psi, depending on engine load and speed.
  3. Warning Signs: Low oil pressure readings could indicate oil pump failure, blockages, or insufficient oil levels.
Pro Tip: Regularly check your vehicle’s oil pressure using a gauge or OBD-II scanner to ensure optimal engine performance.
