parasitic draw
I have a 2002 chevy 2500 8.1l. I have a parasitic draw I keep scratching my head on. I have a brand new battery and alternator checks good. I put my multimeter on the DC amp setting and put it in series between the negative pose and the cable end. I found that the truck was drawing .75 of an amp with everything shut down and locked up. I pulled one fuse at a time and when I got to the radio fuse under the hood it dropped to .06 of an amp. so I went to the radio and pulled the wires so there was no power going to it, I reinstalled the fuse and it was still holding steady with the radio unplugged at .06. I went out a couple of days later and the battery was dead. i’ve heard the bcm’s in those truck rarely go bad and im not to sure on how to test one. i’m not sure what is going on and any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you!
keep looking. 60 mA can't kill your battery in two days. Either there's still a draw somewhere else, or the battery is bad. Bad batteries always act up when the temperature drops.
Don't forget to check the alternator. I've seen them draw power too.
