I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 5.3 V8. 291,790 miles on it. Almost every time I put the truck into Drive lately, the Tow/Haul Mode light comes on and the transmission goes into Tow/Haul Mode. I try pushing the button but it doesn't work. I have to shut off the truck several times to get the trans back to just Drive. Any help/ideas would be most appreciated.

The wires that run up the shift lever for the tow/haul switch are notorious for breaking. Mine wouldn't go into tow/haul on our old 01 suburban and my 00 silverado. take the plastic off the column and look for the (if I remember correctly) white and orange wires and make sure they aren't broken...
