Default Utility work light and rear cigarette light install wiring help?

Hi,

I have a 2000 Silverado, ext cab, 4x4, auto., 5.3L, with a camper shell on it. I'd like to hook up a utility work light and cigarette lighter assembly for use inside and outside the camper shell. At the moment, I'm thinking of just hooking it up to the starter battery/fuse box, and not install a separate AUX battery. Does anybody know how to do this? Is there an open accessory fuse available? How to run the wires?

Thanks for all your time and help in advance!

No. There are no spare fused circuits. You have to make one. Buy an inline fuse holder and run a new circuit directly from the battery or upfitter stud if you truck was equipped with one.

How are you going to prevent running down your starter battery and getting stranded?

Thanks! The LED lights these days on a work light are low amps, so I was think that I would have some time as long as I don't run it for hours at a time. I could also plug my ARB fridge/cooler into the cig lighter while traveling. But, you do raise a good point, why am I risking using my starter battery. Mainly, because of the cost to buy another AUX battery, and a bunch of extra cables, fuses, etc. etc. That said, does anyone know of a AUX wiring kit for accessories like these?

Thanks again!

It depends on if he’s got a new or old style fuse block - there was a changeover in 2000. The new style blocks have studs that are supplied by the MAXI type fuses.

If you only replaced a heater core and this has now developed, retrace all your steps to ensure no wiring has been disturbed and all components are reinstalled as they should be. Double check the work.
