Question

My 2007 shut down on the highway once for a split second as above.

Then started having trouble starting the truck. Sometimes it would be fine, sometimes it hesitated to roll over and sometimes it took ten tries.

Tested battery and it was at the lower limit of good so changed it. Truck was good for a week. Today it started hesitating when starting and reset the clock again.

I've read somewhere that other people had trouble with the battery cables and Positive lug connection. - I'll try that next I guess?

I checked the mega fuse and it appears OK, as does the block ground. Wires also appeared OK with no resistance?

Default Same Problem

I have a 2008 Avalanche with 57000mi on it. While driving the door locks will cycle, radio gos on/off, hvac gos, on/off, compass in rear view gos on/off, gauges go crazy, and it flashes check traction control. This has happened to me twice now. I took it to the dealer today and they told me that they have never heard of this problem (I don't believe this after doing one Google search). They had my truck for 8hr's today and told me that they have know idea what the problem is. I will trouble shoot the ideas that have been explored in this thread and let you know what works for me. PS if anybody can confirm what works or has any new info please post.

Thanks,

Tyler

Default Replaced Bat and cable end

Thanks Finback. I replaced the battery and the end of my battery cable today. I'm defiantly thinking it was the end if the cable as it was completely covered in corrosion. I did the battery because it was another potential problem, the + terminal was loose plus I didn't have to turn the battery around to hook up the new cables.

My last little note is that in eight hours at the dealership yesterday they did not notice my battery cable. Seriously???

Thanks for the help all, I will fallow up periodically to let you know if the ghost comes back.

sorry! everytime I write up everything she doesn't send. We found that the alternator spike 90-110 amps at start up, and stays at 70-80 amps even at idle with nothing on, not good for the electrical system at all. new alt changed the batt reading from 12.3v to 13.5 with truck off. start up 50-60 amps, idle 20-30 amps. much better

I'm sorry to hear of the frustration with your Silverado. Have any after-market items been installed on or in the vehicle (i.e. stereo, speakers, security system, etc.)?

If you would like, PM me your VIN number and I can see if there is any additional information available.

I look forward to your reply.

Louis,

Can't you see that this is a design issue? My truck is stock. the only add on is a soft tonneau cover... Chevrolet needs to fix this safety issue now before this becomes another Toyota fiasco.

Hey y'all; I figured I would just give a quick update. I did my grounding 'mod' in February and since then, haven't had another issue.

I started with a roll of 4-gauge wire (actually ended up being 6 gauge with thick insulation), some ring terminals, a new negative terminal, and a soldering iron.

I first replaced the tiny wire from the battery to the front of the frame. the wire that goes from the negative terminal to the engine is decent sized, so I put a new ring terminal on that. I then ran a cable from the battery to the grounding lug on the firewall behind the engine. From that lug, I also ran a wire down the frame rail to the body mount under the driver's seat.

Note that all ground wires going to the battery will need to go through the sensor on the grounding cables.

Here are a few pics:

These are the two stock wires - note how small the one is:
