Hi all, am getting an error message that says 'Engine Hot- AC Turned Off" in my dad's 2008 Silverado V6. The ac does turn off. The temperature gauge goes to 0 and the radiator fans go full blast. The engine does not overheat. I can reset the code and correct everything by disconnecting the battery with the key in the "on" position for about a minute or so. This was happening every 5 or 6 days of driving. Now it is happening about every other day. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Anyone know the cause and solution? Thanks.

 

Could be something as simple as the engine temperature sensor. What code did you get?

Sometimes things go bad with no engine code. MAF sensors are one. Did you borrow a scan-tool?

When you disconnect the battery , you are doing a "Forced reset". The problem is temporarily removed from the PCM until the condition happens again.
Places like Autozone will check your vehicle for codes at no charge. Just don't buy anything until you are sure there is a defective component.

I read the code on my 08 Silverado; The code that comes up is P0128. The message is Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temp Below Thermostat Temperature). Anyone know the cause and solution? Thanks.

 

So far so good; I changed the Thermostat on the Silverado last Saturday based on code P0128 guidance. I've put about 500 miles on the truck since then and code has not come back on so far.

 

There may be a problem with the electronics but I had a similar problem, I had to look for a new radiator.it's good that my friend mechanic advised me to think about the silverado radiator upgrade https://boostyourengine.com/silverado-radiator-upgrade/. My old radiator was clogged with fault, maybe dust, debris, etc., and this breakdown is "treated" by flushing, and also not big started Corrosion The reason for corrosion may be the untimely replacement of the coolant, and the corrosion itself causes the coolant to boil, the formation of airlocks and, as a result, an increase in pressure.

 

So far, I have not had the problem again since I changed the thermostat.
