When I put the stereo back in the dash, the front speakers get static and fade out. In addition, I have no base what so ever. I am thinking the stereo itself is shot. Between no bass effecting all speakers and the front speakers fading in and out, it has to be the stereo.

Also, what color are the stock speakers? The 4 I have in my doors are blue, which leads me to believe they are after market.
What commonly happens is the aftermarket speakers can't handle the

new amp, which is guaranteed to a certain wattage, but usually ships

with a RMS wattage 15-40 watts higher than the spec "guarantee".

Case in point: my Rockford Fosgate specs at 55 watts per channel,

but when I got the unit, it actually pushes 77 watts RMS. So far I have

blown out a set of MB Quart component tweeters, and a set of

Boston Acoustic component woofers.

As to OEM speakers, they are charcoal colored plastic and cardboard,

and surprisingly good sounding for such cheap manufacture, all things

considered. IME anything with color is probably aftermarket, or custom

ordered at time of purchase, like Blaupunkt, or Bose.

Thanks for the information. They are dark blue so I am sure they are not stock. I think I want to replace the head unit any ways so I can get BT for my iPhone.

generally it's a lack of power that destroys speakers

my OE were like what therewolf described - cheap junk

I'm more than pleased with my Sony DVD receiver, Hertz Energy speakers, JLAudio amps and my Pioneer sub.

Don't buy cheap.

2005 Suburban. Front passenger side speakers keep going in and out....no moisture issues. Now the CD player won't take a CD...ejects fine (from as far as I dare to insert the CD), but won't take the CD.

Default Bad Speakers 08 Crew Cab

Ordering all four. Trading in the truck soon. Will not be another Chevy. Do you think the next President will bail them out again?

I noticed that whenever I left the front passenger door in the sun for an hour or so in the summer the low end speakers would kick in. Anyone have any idea why?

If the truck cooled down over night, the next morning they typically would not work again. They never work in winter as it never gets hot enough to heat the side of the car.

What is the sun heating that allows the speakers to work?

EDIT:

I took the door panel off and connected a household stereo speaker and it worked. So it's definitely the truck speaker.

I posted pictures here of the inside of the door.

You can see where water must be coming in and how I connect and ran the wire for the new speaker.

Default Burnt Coil

After cutting open the speaker, I found the coil to be burnt.

I'm not sure why a hot day would reactivate the speaker...
