Crankshaft Position Sensor Cicuit
OK guys, need some serious troubleshooting help here. I have a 2008 Silverado with a 4.8L V8, 295,000 mi and up until this week was running like a swiss watch. Wednesday morning went to start it up and it would not start easily and once it did was idling extremely rough. Codes generated were mass and numerous, the primary being P0336 (Crankshaft Position Sensor Performance). I replaced the CKP and cleared the codes out. Went to restart it and it started rough again, this time throwing P0335 and P0341 (CKP Sensor Circuit) and (Camshaft Position Sensor Performance), I replaced the CMP and cleared the codes out. Now the truck starts fine but idles rough and I'm still getting the P0335 along with an occasional P0300 (Engine Misfire Detected). Not getting any RPMs on the dash or in the computer. I am also getting a "Service Stabilitrak" and "Service Traction Control System" alerts in the DIC that I normally don't have. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Wife is about ready to set the truck on fire and burn it....
see my very long and then most recent posts thread on my GM 3500 07 Express chevy van w 6.0 L Vortec engine w/o AFM. my thread details many mechanics (and one useless chevy dealer's ) efforts for years to diagnose random my P 300 s with the occasional 341's . work on MAF , TPS, FT sending unit , replacing CKP and CPSs and fuel tank sensor (and cleaning lots of other parts ) didn't help. then I saw 'Schroedinger's box' YouTube video on replacing the green CKP signal wire to fix . that cheap and easy solution would be to have saved me thousands of $ in repair and down time of my work van. corrosion of a signal wire , along with old - age degradation of that wire, resulted in deterioration of the required signals in the 5v signal wire. my 07 van , bought used in 09, was originally run in a corrosive oceanside environment for 2 years before I bought it. my van would only throw malfunction indicators when running engine w 'hot' and at highway speeds.
good luck and keep us posted.
