Hi, all. I'm considering buying a 2013 2500HD Diesel Crew Cab LTZ Z71 (black/black) to replace my 2009 Suburban 1500 LT2 Z71 (white/tan) as my tow vehicle. I don't need a truck, and I prefer wagons (thus the Suburban), but I'm limited by my Suburban 1500 in both trailer length and trailer weight. My current trailer is 18' and weighs 4,000 pounds, but I'm looking at one that's 27' and weighs 7,715 pounds, way outside the limits of my Suburban 1500. Also, I have a crew of 5 to haul (2 adults, 3 children ages 10, 12, 14), plus a 20-pound pug dog.

As I said, this 2500HD is black with black interior. I love the look of it, but my children are concerned about being hot in the back as we travel the Southeast US with no rear AC vents.

Anybody have experience hauling a full host of people + 1 k9 in the back seat of a Crew Cab Silverado during hot summers? Any concerns there?

Obviously I can tint the windows to limit heat, and I would definitely want to do that.

To be clear, I won't be trading the Suburban -- wife & kids love it too much. I'd be buying directly (with a loan unfortunately) or trading my 2013 VW Jetta TDI (also requiring a loan, just a smaller one). The kids aren't old enough to drive yet, and I don't want to hold onto the car for 2 years before they need it.

Thoughts about using a no-rear-AC-vent Silverado to haul a full family?

Other than "the 2500HD Diesel is way overkill for that trailer," I mean. I know. But 1500/2500 4x4 Silverados are pretty hard to come by where I live, and when a nice one pops up, buyers come from all over to look at it. So I'll have to move fast if I want this.
