Having an issue with my trailer brakes. The message flashed a couple of times intermittently over the last few months and then last week it came on and stayed on. Every time I turn the key on the message comes up within seconds and stays on. All my trailer lights work but no trailer brakes. I can set the output with the controller but no gain either when applying the brake or using the manual slider. I have checked fuses and none are out, there is power to stud 2 but not at the trailer brake control module on the frame near the spare tire. I’m wondering if the dash controller is not working would it cause no power down the line or do I need to be looking for broken wires

sorry truck is an 07 Silverado 2500 6L 4x4 360,000 km
Being a 2007, is it the old body style (Silverado classic) or the new body style (Silverado)?
If you’re not sure, You can tell the difference by the headlights - the classic style has 4 separate headlights split top and bottom by a piece of trim - the new style has 1 piece headlight assemblies.

Most common issues are damaged wiring at the rear bumper & poor connections at the brake relay, the control module, and the plug.
This is captioned as the trailer ABS circuit but the wiring/operation is the same as normal brake operation.
the connections and wiring that is easy to access all look good and I replaced the in dash controller but still have the issue. I have the frame mounted trailer brake controller module ordered so I’ll change that and see what happens. If nothing changes I’ll start chasing wires using that diagram

I did change the frame mounted controller and still the same so I’m not sure what to do next other than start chasing wires
