Default Stabilitrac and Service Traction Control

Guys and gals,
I need some help. I have a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab 5.3L V8 LT. Currently I am losing my cool with the truck. The Stabilitrac and Service Traction Control indicators are on. And now have a lower end tick whats seems to be #7 or #8.
1. I've replaced the throttle body (bbk) and air intake (k&n)
2. Replaced all plugs, coils, and wires due to a #7 misfire and time frame.
3. I've done a complete Mobile One Synthetic Oil change.

Recommendations have been everything from replacing the catalytic converter system, replacing the steering column, or doing all the wheel sensors.
I need some help and recommendations.

Thanks.

The better thing to consider is to have someone with a capable scan tool check the system for possible dropping out of a wheel speed sensor. If that is taking place it will tell you which wheel is involved. It may not be the sensor, but could also be a wire or connection problem.

Unrelated to the tick, but with the Stabilitrak, Have you noticed your cruise control not working sometimes or your brake lights staying on for a few seconds after you take your foot off the brake?

Pulling the valve covers to inspect the lifters is your best chance of diagnosing them. You can’t see the lifters directly, but you can have a helper bump the key to crank the engine until the suspect valves have lift on the rockers, then watch to see if the lifter bleeds down.

As for stabilitrak/traction control, the most common problem on these trucks affecting those systems is the steering wheel position sensor. It’s mounted at the base of the column and can be changed in less than an hour. The dead giveaway for this being the cause is a C0710 being stored in the ABS module.

If the messages don’t come on as soon as the truck is started, or even after the first few minutes, it can usually be triggered by executing a U-turn.

However, it can also be triggered by the steering wheel being off center, so if that’s the case, you’ll have to correct the cause of that.

Check your brake booster, my master cylinder was bypassing and letting fluid fill it up. Pull the vacuum hose off and stick a zip tie or a small piece of rope in there..

anytime your traction control or stabilitrac lights are on it disables your cruise control.

I recently purchased a 2010 Silverado 2WD Crew Cab equipped with the 4.8L and at the time of purchased, it had the Service Stabiltrac, Service Traction Control, Service Tire Pressure Monitoring, and a Check Engine Lights on. I used the presence of the dash lights to help me negotiate a great price on the truck. Got the truck home and hooked up my scanner and started working to get the problems diagnosed and cleared. A number of codes were stored and when looking on the internet for possible problems, the Map Sensor was mentioned as the possible cause of more than one f the codes. Since they are not that expensive, I just went to the parts store and picked one up with all the other “normal” service items required for a “new-to-me” vehicle. Got home popped the hood and removed the shroud and started looking for the sensor. It didn’t take very much time to find what I was looking for but, to my surprise, the sensor was UNPLUGGED!!! What to do - install the new one or just plug the existing one back in. I went with the replug, cleared the captured codes, and fired it up. It ran well and after about 30-45 seconds, both the Stabilizer and Traction Control lights went out and have not come back on after a month’s worth of driving. I have no idea why that worked nor any idea why the sensor was unplugged. I am thrilled that it was nothing more than plugging the sensor back in. Oh, the check engine light also went off. Changing the TPMS sensors was all that was required to clear that issue. Good Luck getting your ride fixed.

Your lucky you had a code to go by. My silverado is only showing a p0300 with flashing CEL which is a misfire but it could be anything causing the misfire. I'm about to send it to the dealer and let them check it out.

Thumbs up Dealership says Steering Wheel Sensor

I too have attempted every DIY I could to fix this issue and ended up taking to my local Chevy dealership, There is a sensor on the steering column that went bad and they have to replace it to the tune of $700. At least it's fixed and I won't be getting that annoying message that the Stabilitrac and Traction Control are OFF!
