Transmission not shifting out of third gear

My transmission will go all the way up to 3rd gear and won’t shift up and when I start braking or slowing down will not shift down out of 3rd gear what could the problem be

I have the same problem and it's driving me nuts because I do not want to drive the Truck and damage the transmission. Does all the lights still work on your dash.

I'd have someone put a code reader that can read your TCM on it.

My 1994 Silverado 5.7 would not shift into overdrive. New spark plug wires solved the problem.
