2015 3500HD Duramax Diesel LTZ
Need some thoughts on this...
My truck's check engine light came on and then I got the message: Poor Diesel Exhaust Fluid Quality. See Owners Manual. Speed reduced in 99 miles to 65 mph. So I take the truck into the shop. They come back with 4 codes and I say it will be $1,029 to replace. I ask if that included labor, service guy said, "yes." So I said go ahead and fix the issues. They don't have the parts on hand so I take truck home with agreement to bring back the following week (I paid $160 for the diagnostic at this time). I bring the truck back... they call later and said someone failed to order parts, so I bring truck home again. I take it back the next week and they replaced: NOX #1 (19302359), thermostat (97241129), Thermostat (97241130), DEF Injector (12647372), and added coolant. I go to pick up truck and the bill is $2273.77. I asked what happened to the $1029 estimate? The service guy is new and forgot to add in the labor. Ok, my truck is repaired so I give them a little hassle about the cost, pay it, and take my truck home. Not a day later, the check engine light comes back on and I get the same DEF quality poor, speed restriction to begin in yada yada. I take the truck back in and now it's the emission reduction fluid tank reservoir that's bad and they want another $1,000 to fix. I told them to hang tight that I'd call back. Then I called Chevrolet corporate and complained that I had this reservoir tank replaced 3 1/2 years ago and I didn't think I should have to pay to have it replaced. The previous replacement was under a special coverage adjustment (2017) and chevy paid for it. The lady opened a case for me and long story short, they paid to have it replaced again (I was not quite 2,000 miles over the SCA requirements). Repairs are done and I get the truck back. One day and the check engine light comes back on. Take it back in and apparently the NOX sensor they replaced wasn't seated properly. Brought the truck home again. I kept getting the "Coolant Level Low" upon start up... several times. Hubby checked coolant level and it was low so he added some (about a quart) and he cleared the code with our scan gauge II. One day later, the check engine light came back on. Took it back to the dealer and now they say it is NOX Sensor #2 that is bad and they want $799 plus tax to replace.
At this point, I feel like I'm paying good money for a parts changer and not a master mechanic. Shouldn't they have checked NOX #2 or at least ASSUMED it was bad with all the other bad DEF parts AND the history about these parts that I've read about online? I AM grateful that chevy paid for the reservoir, but what's next? I pay $799 to get this part fixed, bring the truck home, and wait a day or two before the next part breaks?
P.S. - I'm not deleting the truck. I hate DEF, but I just don't know what the consequences are for deleting and I don't have the finances to do it anyway.
