Exclamation 4 or 8 cylinder

Sold my 2017 Silverado about a year ago and I am looking to purchase a 2019-2023 soon. I am wondering what is the reliability of the 4 cylinder Turbo that Chevy is offering in the full size silverado. I am looking to purchase a Used Silverado. Are the 4 cylinder having the lifter problem or any other problems I should know about. Thanks for your reply's. I am not needing the truck for hauling or pulling just road miles and around town driving. RWD is preferred.

I’ve only had mine, an LT with a 2.7 turbo for right at 2,000 miles and I searched up and down for a Silverado in Radiant Red and leather with the options this truck has. I specifically wanted the 4 cylinder turbo. I have friends that have that motor and tow trailers, which I will not be, and they have had zero problems and zero regrets. I have had three Silverado’s a Sierra, Yukon and I still have a 2018 Tahoe, all with 5.3L Vi’s and have always thought they are underpowered. Not that they have no power but they don’t tow exceptionally well and have little torque. These little turbos have eighty pounds more torque and give it all to you at 3,000 rpm which is incredible. When you step on the gas at a stop light you will not believe you are not driving a V8. I am much more impressed with the small turbo most of the time. The only time i miss the V8 believe it or not is at freeway speeds of 80 or above, actually 78 or above seems to be the tipping point on mileage, but overall I am averaging slightly over 21 mpg combined from the time I took it off the lot. I love almost everything about the entire truck, the motor being at the top of the list. Everyone’s needs very of course, but for me this truck makes perfect sense. It seems all or the vast majority of the negative feedback on the 2.7 turbo is from people that don’t own one or have never driven one, but are more than happy to tell the world why they are not as good as the V8 that “they” own. They can thump their chests all they want about the need for big V8 engines, I used to be the same way, I got older and hopefully wiser along the way. Ford seems to be doing fine with their small engines and I suspect GM will have good success with this motor also. One other thing I would like to add. GM has been criticized for not matching the 2.7L turbo with the 10 speed transmission and using the 8 speed instead. The 8 speed tranny is perfect for this motor, it has all the low end torque it needs and would be silly to go with anything else. The transmission shifts smoothly and is a great match with this engine. Chevy used to sell a 283 cubic inch motor in its full size sedans with a 2 speed automatic transmission back in the 1960’s and had no problems.
