6L80 install issue and/or concern
Need some advice on how best to proceed.
Let me start by saying that I am very mechanically inclined and able - however, transmissions have never been my strength or expertise.
My son has a 2015 1500 Silverado 4wd with the 5.3 and the 6L80 transmission. Truck just passed 200k miles and transmission went out. Typical TC failure due to bypass, with extensive shavings found in all areas.
I have purchased a new transmission, TC, a PPE bypass, and have rerouted the lines to a new and separate transmission cooler.
Went to install the transmission - which I have done many times before. Somehow, the TC managed to slide out as we were jacking it up. I slid it back in and could have sworn that I had it fully seated, but apparently not. To make matters even worse, the other guy began to tighten down all of the bellhousing bolts and managed to get all bolts tightened pretty snug by hand. By the time I went to put the TC bolts in, I realized that neither the TC or the motor would turn over by hand and then saw that the TC was firmly pressed against the flexplate. Looking back - I fully understand the flaws and "rookie" mistakes that I made which were brought on by a sense of urgency to get things done.
The motor was never started or turned over, and the transmission was only pressed against the flexplate for a short period of time. I heard no signs of concern at any time - no cracking noises or signs of damage being done.
I have pulled the transmission completely out again and am going to address any issues prior to putting it back in as I don't want further problems if we did manage to bust something.
My question is this:
1 - what is the likelihood that I did cause damage to the pump?
2 - is there any way that I would be able to see damage by visually looking at the area that the TC connects?
3 - if something is damaged in the pump, I am assuming it would be minor since the motor never ran, so it would likely be an easy repair since the transmission was new. Correct?
4 - Can the pump assembly on a 2015 6L80 be removed fairly easily (without removing the entire valve body assembly)?
