Default Axle broken at axle tube exit 15 silverado

Long story short, slid rear passenger side into a curb and snapped the wheel off where the axle exits the axle tube. Also broke the wheel, rotor, caliper, caliper housing, parking brake anchor, brake dust shield. I drained the differential, removed wheel sensor, removed c clip. I can’t get enough umph to get the axle out. What do you guys think my options are?

Is it possible/smart to remove the driver side axle and using a wooden dowel close to the axle diameter to try to knock it out from from the drivers side? Do I risk damaging anything?

I think I could also hire a welder to weld a bolt to the broken end so I can attach a slide hammer to get it out. Any suggestions, tips, and tricks welcomed.

Welcome from Florida. You might be better off going to a U Pick junk yard and getting the complete axle. By the time you buy all those parts, it would be cheaper to get the used axle.

Default Update: both axles out!

Well it wasn’t easy for either side, but I got both axles out. I saw a video about wrapping a towel around the slide hammer handle, I found the towel to be too bulky. I used a 1.5 wide ratchet strap tether, wrapped it around the slide hammer handle and was able to get more leverage with it when I was pulling off the driver side rear. When that finally came out, I inserted a steel rod through the driver side and butted it up against the inboard side of the passenger side axle. Some steady smacks and out she came. I did manage to whack my knee pretty hard with the sledge hammer, but I’d say it was overall successful!
