At what mileage/timeframe did you replace brake pads/shoes? Had fluid flushed, but curious as to how long you're pads/shoes lasted. I've got 2015 silverado 5.3L.

 

Change them when they wear out. There is no specific mileage as it depends on your driving habits and driving conditions. If you constantly use the brakes they will wear out much quicker. I have seen them last well over 100,000 miles and less than 50,000 miles.

do you live in the rust belt, do you service/clean the caliper pins and brackets...all factors in brake life.

the fluid manufacturers recommend brake fluid changes every 2 years...if you buy into that. the "concern" is moisture absorption as brake fluid is hydroscopic. the higher the moisture content the lower the boiling point of the fluid. The fluid going dark is due to the seals in the system, not moisture related.

Its nice to have clean looking fluid so I do it if I have the system open or am servicing a brake mc or caliper...but I've also had vehicles that I have never changed it and never had a problem.

 

Getting ready to replace rotors and pads again, second time. Just rolled over to 92K. 2014 GMC 1500 4wd. I do pull a 7x12 enclosed trailer at times, with electric brakes. Probably average 3500 pounds.

 

Anyone got any advice on a better rotors and pads for my 2014 GMC Sierra 4wd. I'm getting ready to change them for the second time and would like a upgrade to the OEM's.

 

Indeed so. With a stick and driving at a reasonable rate, brakes can last a long time. Still waiting on my 1998 K-1500 to change up to the Akebonos front disk brakes,
