Buying new truck, need some opinions
So fellas (and possibly ladies), I've been looking into buying a new truck but I haven't made my mind up between a f250 or Chevy 2500. I need a truck but don't really need a super duty, I can afford it and I just want it. Honestly any half ton is capable for anything ill be doing so I won't get too into what ill be doing. Also I haven't decided between diesel or gas. Due to the fact that I'm more just buying this truck because I just want it so I really can't justify spending the extra cash for the diesel, well not yet at least. Im not worried about resale because I'll be keeping this truck until one of us dies, hopefully the truck first. I do also do a bit of off roading, it's nothing crazy, but I will be lifting it just a few inches just to fit bigger tires, about 35's or so. Any input will really help me out thanks.
You will get a better deal on a Silverado 2500 than an F250. I was just looking into it. I bought a 2500 HD LTZ 6.0 gas. To be honest the only option I enjoy in the LTZ package is the leather seats. The LT trim package would have been just fine.
The Vortec 6.0 gas engine in the Silverado 2500HD is very durable, thought the 6.2L in the 1500 might have a bit more get up and go. For hauling loads, get the 6.0 2500HD, but for hauling *** get the 6.2 1500
both are solid engines and with proper care will give you an excellent lifespan out of the truck.

The jury is still out as to whether the 6.2L is a "solid" engine. The record the L96 6.0L has is one that any OEM would envy. The 6.2L is still too new to know if it will be a "solid" engine. And while the numbers on paper are impressive, what one in a 1500 can actually do requires taking many other things into account. About the only way to pull the max towing of the 6.2L equipped 1500 is to have only the driver and nothing else in the pickup. With a 6.0L 2500, one can pull the max towing of the pickup and still throw in the family, the dog, and all the gear for the trip. Payloads are that dramatically different. It all comes down to what you want and what works best. I needed payload above what a 1500 can do comfortably. I rarely tow anything, and then it is light. And I didn't want any one of those AFM equipped engines. Another thing that one has to take into account is fuel. The 6.2L is optimized to use premium, whereas the 6.0L can use just about anything from regular to premium from E10 thru E85. I hate being stuck to one fuel with a gas motor, especially the most expensive one.
I have never been a fan of buying new technology. the first couple years of new generations; the bugs are not yet worked out.
as far lifting vehicles. I have driven lifted coil and link (ford, dodge 2500's) and sala (gm). the coil and link designs are much cheaper to buy. the sala systems are much more stable and handle better.

my first truck was a chevy then I had fords and dodges. Been back to chevy for 5 years now and would never buy anything but! currently own a silverado 1500 crew shorty with a 5.3, getting 18/19mpg average. 6.2 would be nice. Last truck was a diesel and it's hard getting used to the gas but for the cost and mileage you can't beat it! Chevy all the way.
