Not just another OEM remote start thread.....
Hi, I have a really strange problem with my remote starter. It's an OEM remote starter on a 2016 Chevy Silverado PU, 4.2L, Std bed, crew cab. Here's what it does: Go outside, use the key to start the truck, and everything is fine. Turn off the truck, and start it from the remote starter (FOB). Let it run out by itself for the 10 minutes until it shuts itself off. Then, go outside and try to start it with the key. It doesn't have the power to turn over the engine. it's as though the remote start is making the engine run off the battery instead of the alternator, thus depleting the battery. Before people speculate, I'll mention the battery is fine, and there are no lights in the cab left on. And there are no aftermarket electronics installed. I've looked at the instruments while the engine is running on remote start, and they are all shut off. So clearly ignition 2 is not being energized. The reason I looked at the instruments to begin with was to see if the vehicle is being charged while running under remote start. The idea being if the voltage was showing 14V, it must be charging. If 12V, then it's not charging and that could be the root cause. But the instruments are dead so i couldn't tell. Maybe I could disconnect the battery after a remote start and see if the truck dies.
Has anyone experienced this? Thanks!
