Very Scary 2018 Chevy Duramax Wheel and assembly fail
My front passenger wheel and assembly came completely off traveling 55mph, no warnings, shaking, or any sign it was about to happen. Dealership said it was out of warranty bc it was 3yr or 36000 miles and I have 80k miles... This seems like a factory defect, and could have been a life threatening deal had a car been coming in the other lane. I didn’t know what had happened, luckily i just let off everything and tried to hold it steady until we came to a stop, thankful i didn’t stomp breaks, probably would have jerked it out from under and pulled me off road. You would think GM would cover this, as the Service manager said he had never seen anything like it and there are no signs of any reason it would happen. Very scary to say the least... Has this happened to Anyone else? Wheels aren’t supposed to fall off of 2018 model trucks that are this Expensive...
I've seen the complete LONG axle shaft, wheel and tire come of a old solid-axle 4X4 vehicle on the freeway. It was close but it missed everyone, thankfully. I've seen far worse things happen, like when people died.
the ball joints separated. The only defect is the owner not getting or performing a suspension check at least once a year. These parts wear and need to be routinely checked. You should be doing this on all your vehicles. Are you a diy or quick lube guy?
from what i can see, you need a tire, rim, inner and outer tie rod ends, flex line, bleed brakes, cv axle, wheel speed sensor harness and maybe a wheel bearing, upper control arm, lower ball joint, maybe a steering knuckle and a wheel alignment
looks like the balljoint snapped clean off. Did you keep it greased?
I thought it might be sealed with no zerk fittings, but it looks like it does still have zerk fittings for the ball joints.Moog is an excellent brand that I'd use in a second.
