Probably so, dropped it off at the dealer this morning, played the video with the sound since it doesn’t do it all the time, so of course it’s a no find right now.
2 more no finds and I’ll file under the Lemon Law in VA. I successfully did one 15 years ago. Lol

just wondering how you did with this. I have a 21 1500 with the 5.3 and 36,000 miles. Big problems. After waiting 3 weeks to get an appointment with one of four Chevy dealers I called they tell me it could be late February or mid-March before I get it back. They tried to get me to trade it in for a new truck. You’ve got to be kidding me!

I sold mine to a dealer, 6k miles, it appeared to lose or burn a quart of oil, no leaks?
Appears to be a possible problem with this engine. I have a friend with the same truck and engine with no problems whatsoever.

Add me to the bad lifter list. 2020 Silverado 5.3 with 17,000 miles. Popping under the hood, service engine light (emissions), Service ECS light, parking brake. With that information a Tech said it is likely bad lifters. A response that quickly tells me they've been seeing this quite often.

ask your chevy dealer for a copy of their tech service bulletin 10/15/2018 #P P4138R SES , misfire, DTC P 0300 , engine noises.
then see if your chevy VIN has ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT.

in certain Chevys from 2002 to 2021 , the AFM system shuts off fuel to 2 cylinders to save gas. the 2 shutoff cylinders don't get enough oil lube. loss of proper lube leads to big expensive mechanical problems. poor design of the AFM system has led to expensive repairs including failed lifter, damaged camshaft, destroyed cam lobes, even bent intake pushrods ..

there have been KNOWN poor - design mechanical issues on chevys with the AFM systems , reported as early as 2012 on this board for models with AFM. complaints are continuing as recent as thru sept 2021 even on young engines of a few thousand miles..

symptoms: noise. valve train 'tick. ' chirp, squeak, or squeal. noise may increase w increasing load from idle. or may occur only at high loads or rpms or speeds.

AFM causes lack of lubrication to 'resting cylinders. ' lack of lube may result in prematurely worn camshaft lobe or lifter roller. sticking valve. valve leak. broken valve spring. OR collapsed AFM lifter. some P0300 reports are as early as 2012 on engines w 3,000 miles.

determining how much damage an AFM caused, then fixing it is a lot of labor. and expense.

Add me to the failed lifter list AGAIN. Collapsed lifter and bent push rod this time in cylinder 1 at 22,000 miles. This after each bank of lifters have been replaced at 8,000 and 17,000 miles respectively. Yes that's my post next to last above in May for the 2020 Silverado with 17,000 miles. Fortunately covered under warranty, but this doesn't seem like a truck ready for the long haul. I will be requesting a new engine with the AFM disabled or driving it into the show room otherwise. Big time buyer beware here on Chevy Silverado with 5.3 L equipped with AFM as MitchM describes above. GM knows they have a problem but are not recalling and just dealing with each truck as it breaks. Claim will be that the original parts were faulty, but I've had failure now with the replaced parts. You will certainly want to disable the AFM if planning to drive it out of warranty. Class action law suit filed in Michigan in December 21' for 3 engines and various GM models (law firm only accepting California cases).

Filed on December 15 in a federal court in Michigan, the class action lawsuit alleges that GM intentionally sold vehicles equipped with faulty AFM Lifters that could place drivers and passengers in danger.
