My new truck has automatic tailgate opener;
the other night it opened while driving causing the contents to fall out on the road.

I read others had had similar issues but those may have been older trucks

Anyone else having tailgate issues with new trucks?

 

my 2021 trailboss is doing the same thing, will also open when when the keys are not near it. The button on the tailgate will only work sometimes

 

Yes, my 2021 silverado will open at any time and sometimes the button on the gate is inop. I bought a new switch (button) on the tailgate and it fixed the problem but is doing it again. It is caused by water. I took both switches apart and both had water damage. Green corrosion. It happens mostly after a visit to the car wash.

 

This is the second switch at 9000 miles. The first switch went bad at 4300 miles. The first thing I notices was that in the rain my tpms would quit working. Then I noticed the tailgate would not open from the button on the gate only would open from the dash button or remote. I replaced that button at 4300 miles and it fixed all of the complains. At 9000 miles I noticed the tailgate would open up while the truck was parked. Sometimes it would open when I opened the drivers door. I took the switch apart and found water again. This time I sealed the area that allows the water to get behind the button. Hopefully this is the cure. I cleaned and re-assembled the old switch so I have a spare.

 

Shouldn't your dealer be handling this as a warranty item?

 

part was only 20 bucks it was less time consuming to do it myself

 

My 2021 Silverado 3500hd had a 6 by 4 x 2 300lb box laying flat in the bed. While driving on interstate at 65mph. Suddenly I hear a warning sou d and a message displaying tailgate open and then it went away. I pulled over and my box was gone and tailgate was closed. Immediately called state police fearing it caused an accident. Never touched a button to request tailgate open. Waiting for dealer to call back to ha e it checked.
