Bad water pump
2020 1500 lt 4wd. 5.3 with 36021 miles. Water pump pully wobbles and breaks off. Pump is on backorder. Anyone have any thoughts as to the commonality of this problem of wtf backorder means?
Extremely rare for a vehicle with only 36k miles.
It means they don't have it, and they have to wait for their supplier to supply more.
Please watch your language. Thanks.

Our 2020 Tahoe waterpump had suddden failure this spring about 50k miles- pouring coolant out of failed unit so fast needed to parked and get it towed. Warranty covered the repair. On line reading suggests not an uncommon failure.
I changed out my 1998 K-1500 water pump 5 years ago and only because the weep hole was seeping a small amount of coolant and I don't want animals to die drinking a toxic substance, that tastes sweet to them.
By law, ALL coolants should have bitterness agents added, but in the US they do not. Dont know why a pump should not be available right now, unless you are buying it from a dealership, that doesn't carry many spare parts.
Gonna look into purchasing a bitterness agent currently. I am certain there must be some for sale. I dont want to destroy their kidneys, which is what anti-freeze does to them, particularly cats, but even dogs.

What gets me is that the water pump for your 1500 LT is available from rockauto.com (ACDelco/GM Original Equipment part number 12708893) for $227.79.
The problem is that the part is not available through the GM warranty parts program that they have to follow unless they get special permission. I went through this a few years back with a bad tire that allegedly unavailable through the GM system for up to 6 months, but I found the required tire will all the proper GM certifications, etc. at a warehouse about 60 miles away from the dealership. I asked why the dealership could not order it from the online retailer and the warranty parts process was described to me. I was told that the factory zone rep had to approve such a purchase. I asked to speak with the factory zone rep, but the factory rep would not take 10 minutes to telephone and talk to me.
I next called the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center, got a pinhead who did not want to help me, so I took the problem to the top. What I did was to call the GM Executive Office at 313-667-7153 and let them know the problem I was having and why it would take 6 plus months before they could get a replacement tire rather than using a credit card and ordering the exact same tire from an online retailer 60 miles from the dealership. Well, the lady took my information and promised she would get back to me within 24 hours. The next morning she called and let me know that there would be a tire at the dealership for my vehicle the next day thanks to FedEx. Then to apologize for all the hassles I experienced, she gave me 3 years of free oil changes & tire rotations (back when one could get them every 3 months for a total of 12 oil changes and 6 tire rotations).
Good Luck!
