Default leak

i have a 2005 silverado with 37300 miles on it. it has a leak that seems to be coming from the water pump area. should i be having trouble with the water pump on a truck with this many miles ? is the pump hard to replaceand are there any special tools needed?

it's possible that it could be bad. if it's a v8 they aren't bad to change at all. a v6 is a lil harder cuz u have to remove the fan from the water pump pulley.

Default RE: leak

Water pumps typically should last 65,000 miles or so. When I was working at the car dealership, it was almost like clock work. Almost every vehicle I put a water pump in had somewhere around 60,000 miles or 120,000 miles, etc... But there are exceptions. Some vehicles **** the pump much earlier or much later. When I was in tech school I remember one of my instructors saying that the parts manufacturers actually design the ceramic seals in a water pump to fail around 60,000 miles. From what I have seen, that seems to hold some truth. My 03 Silverado has 70,000 miles on it, and it's still on it's original pump. I've been watching it though. Any day now.

Eh with the way quality is now, that is just the beginning of your concerns. Not too bad of a job, did a few myself and can say I've had worse.
