Transmission temperature
I have a 23 Silverado LT with a 2.7L and 8 speed transmission. Truck runs great, no problems but, I wonder where the transmission temperature is supposed to be at. I live in Florida so the temperature outside is in the mid 90’s during the day and the transmission temperature can run as high as 209. I’m not pulling anything and am wondering if that is too high, if so should I have a transmission cooler installed and what’s involved with that?
Mine pretty much stays under 200 (usually way less) and I am in Texas. I started watching after I saw this thread. I will be pulling a camper in the next couple of months, will note temps then and post back.

Well, all I can compare your transmission temps to is my son-in-laws 2008 GMC Denali 6.2L with the 6L80 transmission (6 speed). The DIC (Driver Information Center) can show the transmission fluid temp. He was TOWING my Subaru Impreza on a U-haul car hauler through moderate grades in the mountains and the highest we ever saw the transmission get was 180ish, and on the flat it would drop to about 160. That is towing over 7000 pounds, the weight of the car + trailer, on a 85 degree day in May of this year. When not towing anything, just around town, I think he runs below 160. This is with the stock cooling on that particular vehicle, which was decked out with every factory option GMC offered on the 2008 Denali (basically an upscale Suburban).
I would expect an 8 speed transmission to run at lower temps at cruising speeds without towing anything, but that's just me.
