Bigred, usually, when your AC doesnt work, the first thing anyone will recommend you, is to let a specialized dealer, check the amount of fluid of your AC. Usually thats what causes the AC to malfunction. So that would be my first suggestion.

I have a set of gauges and the pressures are fine when i say it goes off i mean the entire thing stops. if it was low or high it would'nt cool right but the entire blower goes off. which has noting to do with the fluid levels.

Default Astro 97

Yes with my van about @ yrs back same thing was happening sometime the fan could be ON and all off sudden could not run on HIgh speeds, I finally opened the Blower motor resisitor and try to replace it and somehow the New GM /Delco part diod not fit in then I used a multimeter and found one of Solder Point was looking a DRY SOLDER a, I had to buy anew Soldering Gun and Solder Cost me about $15 in total and did fix the Solder Point and since then NO MORE PROBLEMS.
That way I saved some money by doing this REPAIR myself instaed of replacing the Part.

I had the same thing with my 2000 Astro a couple of years ago. Usually the blower would stop blowing air when under load or perhaps going up a grade. Once over the hill, or when no longer under load the air would start blowing again. After lots of frustration, the fix turned out to be almost free. A vacuum leak. Mine was in a very small, probably 1/8 " plastic line which ran from the intake manifold. This line connects in the area of the throttle body on the driver's side. Crosses over and runs forward to the right front side of the firewall above all the blower and a/c stuff. From there I forget where it went, but this line apparantly provides vaccuum for all the doors to work. I found a crack in this line (probably from heat). A quick splice and life was good again. And stayed good. My brother had the same symptoms with his 90 Astro. His turned out to be that somehow a "critter" had chewed a hole in a vaccuum canister. The loss of vaccum in that system made his air not blow right. These were both just about "free fixes". Hope this is helpful.
