Default 1997 K2500 Burb steering question and 4L80 question

First:
So my steering was crazy sloppy when I bought my burb, I got it in my shop and the pitman and idler were shot.....I've replaced both, and the steering is still just sloppy. I've double and triple checked ball joints, tie rods, and wheel bearings with zero play......literally. I've wiggle/jiggled in every direction........ to the point my question is with age can the steering box really wear out that bad.....or should I check somewhere else? Maybe the shaft itself? Doubtful I know but I have honestly never experienced this much play...and its not a loose knocking feeling.......but if you are going down the road just staying steady in a straight line requires about 4" of back and forth on the steering wheel.....slowly of course not crazy whipping around...but you get the picture

Second:
My previous two trucks 93 K2500 burb 454 and 2003 K2500 Duramax both when placed in drive would pull forward to the point that you had to hold the brake.....My current K2500 Burb 5.7L has no forward movement until you hit the accelerator. Very high mileage so maybe just converter wear? My 4L80 in my 93 Burb would creep with my 8k lb travel trailer and this one doesn't creep when empty.....figured someone else could enlighten me. I can rebuild anything, but I'm no tranny guy by any means........

Yes. Try turning the steering shaft under the hood by hand and watch the pitman arm to see how much input it takes to move it.

I'll give that a shot.......I've been playing with it, but as a one man show it gets tricky trying to find an extra hand.

I would assume it has to be the steering gear box simply because nothing else is worn and has been greased up so its sort of the only thing left. Luckily they aren't expensive.......just a biotch to mess with......I played hell pulling it off to do the pitman arm.

We'll see when the temp warms up in a few days.
