AC comes out of defrost rather than vents

AC comes out of defrost rather than vents

2000 Astro van and the air has started coming out of only the defrost vents and not the upper body vents. Any ideas here?

I had the same problem. Probably a vacuum leak. check the plastic vacuum line that runs around the top of the engine. You can see part of it from under the hood. The line gets brittle and cracks.

I second this diagnosis. I had the same problem with both my current vans and fixing the vacuum line was the cure.

After following your advice I now have air coming out of the correct vents!
