Default Crankshaft balancing 4.3l v6

Hi Guys,

greetings from Switzerland. I currently helping my father with rebuilding his GMC Safari from 1998/99. As I understand the GMC Safari shares the drivetrain with Chevy Astros so I wondered if you guys can help me.

We have disassembled the engine and sent it off to the engine builder but he has no experience with this particular engine. He noticed that the crank has a big imbalance and he wondered if this engine needs to be balanced with external accessories like the tourqe converter/flywheel and/or the harmonic balancer.

Can you guys guide me on how the engine needs to be balanced? I tried googling but I found a lot of different answers :-/

Thanks in Advance
Andy

Yeah, no harmonic balancer will do that.

Hi Henry,

thanks for your reply. Does this mean this engine type is internally balanced?

the factory service manual may list if the engine is internally or externally balanced.
