2000 astro I've been having issues with my van about the last 6 months, where 1 out of 20 times it won't start, the lights and everything work, just won't crank. Usually it will start on the 2nd try.Then today it didn't start at all, went back 6 hours later and it started right up - but it now makes a grinding noise as it cranks, it's a short burst of noise and it does start.

I picked up a starter on the way home but I am one of the unemployed and can't afford to throw parts at it without being positive....
