Work van tranny suddenly stopped working
2004 Chevy Astro Cargo Van 4.3L RWD. Automatic transmission... I can move the column shifter into any gear but it won’t engage ,...except when it’s cold,... I can get it to engage in reverse when it’s cold but as soon as it warms up it won’t engage in reverse either (and at that point there is a buzzing sound that mimics the rpms of the motor if it’s in gear).
I read up on this model and transmission and got some great info from another Astro blog site,.... I have not yet checked to see if there is a fuse related to this system,... after dropping the pan on the transmission and looking for metal or something obvious (i did not find anything) I decided it might be best to just order the rebuild kit (4L60E Solenoid Kit 7 pc. w/new electrical harness) on line and have a mechanic do the work. The thing is it’s an old work van and I’m getting close to retiring it and me too! I have priced out the averages for this type of repair and my options and need it to be a cheap as possible,.... any advice out there,... I gotta get this old work truck back on the road ASAP as I have no back up work vehicle at this time.
please advise 🙏😎

If we have alternatives, we can be choosey, but with your back against the wall, you don't have too much choice except to bite the bullet and have it repaired ASAP so you can get back to work. Have you considered a salvage yard replacement? Quick and maybe even much lower cost .
