Dome lights come on when my headlights come on?

Dome lights come on when my headlights come on?
2007 Avalanche dome lights have all of the sudden started coming on when the headlights come on. I can dim them but can't turn them off as long as the headlights are on? Light switch maybe? Has anyone else ever experienced this? I need help.

Can you turn the dome lights on without the headlights on? If so, do the headlights also come on?

No the dome lights won't come on without the headlights. My Chevy dealer says it's the bcm. They can fix it for $500 bucks. Now I guess I need to ask if that's a shade tree fix or a dealer only? They say it has to be programmed.
