I have a 2005 Chevy Avalanche 4 wheel drive V8 5.3. I have a ping from under and twords the rear. Only happens when I'm accelerating and in drive and will stop when I let off the gas. It doesn't happen in park and I rev it up. U joints are good. I'm not sure at this point on what it could be. Any help would be appreciated.

 

Welcome Goble! Is it a one time noise, or repeated as long as you are accelerating? Is it faster if you accelerate faster? Does frequency change with rpm's?

 

It is a repetitive noise. If I find the right rpm it's not as bad but definitely gets worse the more I'm on it. It is an old truck, hitting 300K very soon but the noise kinda came out of nowhere. I should mention I have a lifter problem as well but completely different noise and I'm almost positive it's coming from underneath.

 

Sounds like a Universal Joint going bad.
