Question Possible Transmission Issue

Greetings all,

This is Paul from Whitby, ON, Canada and I'm new to this Chevy forum but glad I found it. Wondering if I can tap into the Avalanche enthusiats to seek some input and guidance regarding an issue with what appears to be my transmission, tranmission pump or related sensors. To convert the mileage references into miles multiply kms by .63. Here's my story:

I have a 2004 Chevy Avalanche that I bought with 54,000 kms in April 2006. It just recently went out of aftermarket extended warranty. It’s now around 112,00 kms. Transmission fluid was replaced at about 64,000K and again when in to Nurse a few weeks back. Now, on occasion since I’ve owned the truck, it would make a loud “clack’ when moving from 1st to 2nd gear. It would also do the same thing on occasion when moving it into reverse gear. Back in May, on my way home from the airport, I could hear a whirring underneath the floorboards and the RPMs of the enging were higher than normal for the speed I was travelling. thought I could feel slight slippage in the transmission. Ten minutes later on the highway, the 'Transmission Hot' message flashed in the dash. Slowed down to 100 km/hr and light went off, kept that speed or less for remainder of trip home. Got home and found tranny fluid on the ground, dropping from several components around the universal joint. Took truck to my local GM dealer, they said seal was gone on universal joint, they replaced it.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Truck worked fine for past 6 weeks, even took a trip with <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1lace w:st="on">my son</st1lace> fishing and hauled my 1500 lb. boat and gear about 2 hours each way on the highway with no problems. July 2nd, we were driving out to a family get together and after 10 minutes on the highway I hear the same sound and RPM's are jumping up to 3000 to keep the truck moving at speed. Can hear whirring and feeling some slight slippage going up hill at speeds beyond 60 mph. <o></o>

Today, out on the highway for about twenty minutes, get up to just under 120 km/hr, the same thing happens, rpm's jump up to 3000 while in cruise control (should be 2000 under normal conditions), I drop back my speed to 100 Km/hr, but truck still fluctuating RPM's between 2000 and 3000 rpms. Visited a friend's office and drove home, same highway conditions, kept speed to around 105 km/hr, problem didn't resume. <o></o>

What might be causing this problem with the transmission? Btw, did a quick check on the internet and seems there are more than a few Avalanches that have had tramsmission issues similar to mine around the same mileage. Some say there were recalls, others haven’t.

I'd greatly appreciate the insight of any who have time to respond.

Cheers,
