Replaced Engine ~ Crank but won't start
I have a 2008 LTZ 5.3 Flexfuel with 260k. A few months ago it got a sticky lifter and was running poorly (misfiring on Cylinder 7) so rather than dig down and fix the lifter, I purchased a remanufactured engine and had a mechanic install it. First shot at starting it wouldn't even crank. He wasn't able to read the BCM on his computer so he called a BCM tech to come out and re-flash it. The BCM tech said it was a bad BCM and needed a new one so my mechanic installed it. Now it cranks but won't fire. BCM tech is at a loss. Says it could be the "wrong engine" and not compatible but really doesn't have any other ideas. Anyone out there experience this issue or similar issue with an engine replacement? The company I purchased the engine from is supposed to have a tech calling but that won't be until Tuesday so I'd figured I'd try to get a jump on the issue. Thanks in advance.
Engine replacement today is much more different from replacing one several years ago.
Manufacturers make changes every year plus changes made mid-year and all that has to be considered when specking a replacement engine.
Something simple like the incorrect crank pulley can present problems that could elude an experienced tech never mind the everyday guy attempting to make a living.
Nothing can be ignored or overlooked because if it is , it could really be difficult to find once everything is assembled and installed.

Hey Hanky ~ Thanks for your response. And I can believe that a total engine replacement takes quite a bit more research than simply typing "Chevy Avalanche Engine" which is why I gave the company providing the engine all of the information that they asked for when ordering the replacement engine, like VIN, various specs, year of manufacture, etc. and would certainly hope that the company providing the engine when telling me that it's a direct replacement would take all of those factors into consideration cause I sure as heck would have little to no idea! I'm hoping that they would realize that it's less $$$ in the long run to take the time to be as sure as possible that the engine they're providing will be compatible in my truck the first time it's installed rather than spending MORE time and more $$$ to have to pay for it to be uninstalled, shipped back, have a new engine shipped and then pay for IT to be installed. Fortunately I paid the extra $$$ to get the 3 year no-fault warranty with it which pays for the mechanics time and pretty much everything else except for the time I'm losing not being able to use my truck. Thanks again and I'll post updates as I get them.
UPDATE: TRUCK IS FIXED! After the new BCM was installed, the mechanic was getting a P0633 code: Theft Deterrent Key Not Programmed. The BCM programmer said it needed to be taken to a dealer for reprogramming. My mechanic "knew a guy" that does that. He came out and wiped the security feature so now any key (as long as it's keyed properly) will start the car and doesn't need the security fob. While he was at it he also disabled the AFM/DOD so no more V4 mode, yea!
Fingers crossed now I'll get another quarter-million miles outta this baby :-)
