Default 92 Lumina Starter Help

Hi there. I have a quick question.

The car is a 92 Lumina 3.4 and it needs a new starter. I have looked at autozone and such and they show different part numbers for the 3.1 and 3,4 but look exactly the same.

Will starter off a 3.1 Lumina or any other 3.1 GM from around the same year work for this?

Thanks.

The original starter is moderately large and bulky. Works fine, of course...but there is a better solution.

Get a permanent magnet starter from a newer 60 degree V-6. It's physically smaller, and MUCH EASIER TO INSTALL than the original style.

The original starter is going to be a real pain to remove. Most folks take the oil filter AND the oil cooler off; I managed to do it with the oil cooler still installed, but it was NO fun at all; and it just barely came out.

Talk to your parts store about the newer-design starter. I'm thinking a ~2005 Impala 3400 should be correct.
