Default '99 Chevy Lumina, shifting column troubles

Hey all, hope all is well!

I have a 1999 Chevy Lumina, automatic. 3800 Series II V-6 .

I have column automatic shifting, so i have the shifting stick attached to the wheel column, that you just pull clockwise to operate. For the past couple of days it has been getting exponentially harder to move that stick, and shift through the gears. I have to put a lot force into moving the stick from park to drive, and back. I checked my transaxle fluid level, and it was really low- could that be the culprit? Because it got progressively harder, almost like a was losing fluid, not like a sudden change.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

God bless[/align]

When you check your transmission fluid, your vehicle has to be running and should be at operating temperature otherwise it will be low. There is a good chance that the grease on the shifter cable has become gummed up and causing it to stick and hard to shift. I pulled off the cover under the steering wheel and located the shifter cable. I then used WD-40 and sprayed the cable with that and it has been good since.
Hope this is your problem. Good luck.
