It sounds like a crankshaft sensor or an ignition module problem. There are two crank shaft sensors on this engine. One is behind the crankshaft pulley, and another one is on the back of the engine. It has two wires that hook up to the ignition module. Check that wire, make sure it's no touching the exhaust or plug wires. As for the ignition module, it is under the ignition coils. There is no test to perform on that other than trial and error. Check that wire running to it.

I just chased a stalling problem on my 3.1 98 lumina. Found the crank sensor wires pinched in exhaust manifold and copper wires exposed. Pulled them out and taped them up. All seems good.

Had it to three shops no one could find the problem. I ended up seeing a pic online somewhere showing the wires that get caught. I paid for a few p[arts that I didn't need.
