Yup, it's been done — and it sounds like a hoot. It's not actually as out there as it seems either, as instant torque and a low center of gravity make for surprisingly good acceleration and snappy handling. It'll be interesting to see if companies ever start offering serious performance tunes for electric cars... It was cool to see what Vonnen Performance is doing with Porsches.
