Not voluntarily that's for sure! You'd have to prove that it's a defect.
Check for recalls or service bulletins.

BBB Industries- Premium Alternators, Starters, Power Steering Products and Turbochargers | TSB and Wiring Diagrams Database

Contact your dealer. They might agree to look at your engine to see if they can find what went wrong. More likely though they'll try to blame it on you.

If you don't get any love there, then you can try GM headquarters. Unlike the dealer, they are a bit more concerned about your satisfaction.

Good luck.

It will help your cause if you have followed the maintenance schedule and have service records showing the vehicle was maintained as indicated in the owner's manual. If you can't, it gives them an out - They can claim you failed to follow the maintenance schedule and will deny the claim (even if the vehicle is within the warranty). Unless you purchased an extended warranty I sincerely doubt they will honor your claim - your vehicle is well past the original warranty time wise.

According to the Magnuson-Moss Act a manufacturer cannot deny a warranty claim simply because the vehicle wasn't serviced at an authorized dealer. As long as there are receipts showing the oil & filter were purchased or the service was performed at an independent shop that should be sufficient.

Now if the owner was unable to provide such receipts I could see the manufacturer denying the claim.

yeah the owner prob wouldnt be able to produce receipts from walmart, when they dont keep them. dont think he realized he would need to verify oil changes so he never kept them
