2012 Convertible Top Leaking
2012 Camaro RS 15,600mi
Car has never been outside overnight and is "showroom" clean (which I mention because there no debris in the drainage system) but if the top is up, and the car is caught in the rain the right rear carpet gets soaked. The water appears to be coming down alongside the rear seat under the hard plastic interior trim of which the rear armrest is integrated.
The water striking the top is supposed to run down and dump off the top at the front corners of the top material into the rear window area, and with the windows down you can see into the area where the water drains, including the round drain hole that drains through a tube under the vehicle. I aimed a "jet" of water from a nozzle and directed it into the drain hole and it gushed out the bottom of the car perfectly, so it appears the drain is open and functioning. I would imagine I was shooting the water in at a 2+ gallon per minute rate, more than a rain would cause.
There are several metal seams where body parts come together to form that cavity, and they appear to have huge globs of rubber foam about 1" diameter roughly over the seams, but by appearance one cannot tell if they REALLY seal well.
The left NEVER leaks-only the right.
Has anyone experienced similar leakage, and if so, what was found and how did you stop it? The bottom of the cavity is too far down for even with someone that has skinny wrists (to get down into the cavity with the rear window UP and the top DOWN to be able to feel or reach the seames to re-seal them.
Since the car is generally only driven in perfect weather, this was not discovered until after the warranty was expired is why Chevy didn't address it in case you might ask. We have had to use the car very occasionally when it DID rain, and having soaked carpet is a real pain.
I tried several different search strings to see if others have had the problem and either they have not or I was using the wrong search string words, but found nothing.
Thanks,
Bob
