The Rochester Quadrajet is a great all-around carb.....with it's spread bore design and 750 cfm, (when tuned correctly), will run really good.....at least that's what I always believed until I bolted on my first Holley...then I never looked back!

If your running the Quadrajet, then your intake manifold is also a "spread bore" design, (the primaries are much smaller than the secondaries), and it too should be replaced if you want to install a Holley carb or any other "square bore" carb, such as Barry Grant's Demon series.....There are a LOT of intakes to choose from. I purchased and tried to install a Edelbrock "Air Gap" intake, but it's overall height would not let me close the hood with a Holley carb and air filter installed. The Air Gap is a superiior design because it allows air to flow between the runners of the intake and the valley pan. This keeps the intake air "charge" cooler and more dense....and as we all know, a cooler, denser intake charge will create more power. Eventually I want to replace the factory hood with a mild cowl hood, then I can install the Air Gap! The ZZ-4 came with an aluminum highrise "square bore" intake...so that made things easy. I replaced an old style Holley 750 cfm with a Holley "Street Avenger" series 780 cfm carb. It has redesigned venturi's for better low-end performance, all the gaskets are suppose to last "forever" and the accelerator pump is guaranteed never to fail. Best of all, it's high gloss, polished silver!!
I avoided the mechanical secondaries as well as the double pumper models....they're not as "streetable". My car is a single pumper (accelerator pump), with vaccuum secondary's. That way, if I keep my foot out of it, she'll always on the primary's which helps with fuel economy and keeps the plugs from fouling from an overrich mixture. I have posted some pixs in the album section...take a look if you want.

Good luck! And have fun!!

What size Demon and what are the mods to the engine???
Should go something like this.....
650cfm for stock engine
650-750 for slight mods
780-850 for heavy mods
go 1000cfm (what the hell) for all out drags!!

I'm not that "up" on Barry Grant and his Demon carbs as much as Holley's.....does he offer vaccuum secondaries vs. mechanical???
Single inlet vs. dual??
Single pumper vs. double pumper?

Inquirering minds want to KNOW!!
