not sure if this will be of any help for a 81, but I have seen several >2xxx models, that have required full cluster swaps with similar issues, although most of those were intermitant. i.e. temp gauge would be pegged, fuel would be on E, etc.. and the next time driving they all work, another time all wacked. (the vehicle I am refering to was a suburban, and under warranty, so when we took it in, they plug in and said yeah something is wrong, we'll order a new cluster panel) was a freinds and never heard if it was resolved.

The gauges work off of electrical resistance....if memory serves me...
Sounds like the headlight switch is faulty or maybe the connections are dirty or loose. Check them first before replacing anything....good luck!

Thanks guys!! As a matter of fact.....my oldest daughter IS....she'll be making me a grandpa in the fall, I can't wait!! ....but the "AV" doesn't have anything to do with it.

That pic is from an old short video of a fetus speed shifting. It does a real good job of acting out the body movement of shifting. I usually add the comment that I was "driving" my mom crazy from a VERY early age!! LOL!!!

I think it may be depicting a baby holding a steering wheel and stomping the gas pedal. I'm not sure though.

Your new signature pic looks almost like a pastel what with the color contrast and lack of shadowing
Looks good.
