Post possible engines 87 camaro

I was wondering if anyone knew if a 4.3 ltr will bolt up to an existing 200 4R trans? I plan on going carburated so I dont have to mess with a new ecm or reconfigure the one i already have. It had a 2.8 and I would like a little more power and would like to stay away from a gas guzzling v8. Besides If I were to put a v8 in it I might not be able to keep myself from being under the hood with add-ons.

An older 4.3L is almost as bad as a V8.

If you had a 2.8 in it, then you have a 700R4, not a 2004R. No , the 2.8 and 4.3 trannise will not interchange, different bell housing and convertor.Hope this helps.

if that is so what about a bellhousing swap? different converter? Ive seen 4.3s mated to 700r4. 4.3 is same as 350 minus 2 cylinders. 2.8 is diff block and everything. 4.3 uses almost all same parts as 350. and my 2.8 has a 200 4r stock.

The bellhousing does not come off, it's part of the casting. A 2004R will bolt to a 4.3, but you will run into problems with the filler tube, it is in a different location than the 700R4. Never tried it, but anything is possible. 2.8L engines only had either a 200C or a 700R4 bolt to them.
