Random questions from a 15 year old auto-noob
Hey, im kinda new to engines and whatnot, and ive been planning an saving for this hypothetical ( hopefully soon palpable ) dream engine to be put in my ( also hypathetical ) 68 camaro ss/rs. ive been looking around and asking about what i can do to get maximuim power out of a chevy 350, and a favorite has been turning it into a 383 stroker. Another suggestion has been to do a fuel injection conversion. Ive looked at the kits offered by Edelbrock, but ive seen on some forums on which some have said you can remove the fuel injection system out of a late 1990's chevy pickup.
Sooooooo, my first few questions:
1. How much would it cost to get an old 350 from a pick-a-part lot?
(Some have said they can be as cheap as $100.)
2. Is it possible to remove the fuel injection system out of a late model 350 and put it a 40+ year old one?
also...
3.With an Edelbrock fuel system for use with a 383, would i buy the one for a 350 or one for a 396?
Thanks for the help.
God Bless

Before I did anything to a 40+ year old engine, I'd find a reputable engine shop and find out if a rebuild is in order, and find out if it's worth it in the long run.

thanks also, if i was to get the block from a larger engine, say a 427, and bore it to the same specs of a 350, would you be able to put the internals of the 350 in the larger block?

ya def keep saving. get a part time job and I honestly wouldnt start spending anything until you have about 5K under your belt. + you're 15 so you cant drive alone for another year anyway so like I said work hard and save up.

I just put a new crate motor in my pickup. While researching to find the best price I found that to do a good rebuild on a motor was not much different than a brand new crate. Plus with the GM crate you get a better warranty. Unless you know someone that is going to cut you a deal on the rebuild and they know what they are doing you would be better off saving up an buying a crate motor. You can get a brand new 383 from GM to fit your car. Keep saving up and do a lot of internet searching for the best price. Good luck!!
